Based in Lagos, Nigeria, The Republic works with more than 100 contributors from Nigeria, Africa and the diaspora. The Republic publishes daily online, and quarterly in print to an audience of 50,000+ worldwide readers. In 2021, The Republic was recognised by the One World Media Awards as a media company offering the best coverage of the global south and spotlighting underreported stories that break through stereotypes, change the narrative and connect people across cultures. It was founded by Wale Lawal, who is also the chief-in-editor.
