Q & A

We're particularly keen on supporting XR projects which tell creative stories about Africa by giving a fresh, innovative perspective of the continent and its people; stories that capture the beauty and diversity of Africa through 360 filmmaking, augmented reality, virtual reality and mixed reality. Immersive technology allows for endless amounts of creativity - think about the world you are creating for the viewer and the message you are communicating through your work. We are also looking for projects that can be realistically executed within the stated timelines and are keen to work with creators who are open to mentorship and support.

Unfortunately, creators must have at least six months of experience for this particular grant programme. This is due to the short delivery timelines and the entry requirements needed to participate in Electric South's Creator Lab. We hope to develop a programme in the near future that supports creatives interested in entering the XR space.

Once applications close, we will compile a long list of applications that meet the above criteria.

From there, a shortlist will be compiled based on: Eligibility, Viability, Innovation and Creativity, Portfolio and Access to equipment. We are also eager to ensure we have an equal gender balance and creators who work and speak in different languages.

Once our shortlist has been created, we will invite shortlisted candidates for interviews. The interview panel will consist of Africa No Filter, Meta, Imisi 3D, and Electric South members. Candidates will be sent a brief before the interview, which will allow you to prepare for the questions we may ask.

This call-out is specifically for XR creators living and creating in Africa.
